2nd-8 weeks. BUSINESS STRATEGIES FOR PROFESSIONAL SPORT ORGANIZATIONS. The course examines historical context of the professional support industry, along with modern issues impacting the front office of professional sport franchises. Course will utilize Sports Business Journal. Topics include league and team sponsorship and marketing, broadcasting and media rights, assembling a front office staff, salary caps and competitive balance, the use of analytics in sport, trends in stadium design, and more. The perspective is strategy-based with an orientation to building fans, viewers, sponsorships, and revenues. Students will synthesize course materials to create a proposal for an expansion franchise.

Combining in-class and experiential learning adventures, this first 8-week course explores business, policy, and marketing aspects of “farm to fork” and “seed to glass” agritourism enterprises. Course content emphasizes issues of environmental sustainability, social and cultural impacts, and community and economic development. Through this course, students will build capacity for critical thinking and problem-solving skills within the context of agritourism, event and outdoor recreation management. COURSE INCLUDES off campus site visits to agritourism locations and organizations. Meets with RST 593 EA and ACE 199 EA.
