Students will gain experience identifying and interviewing experts, interpreting complex environmental topics, and explaining research. The course will examine topics including covering polarized subjects, reporting on solutions, identifying greenwashing, and considering environmental issues through a justice lens. Students will have the opportunity to report on environmental topics relevant to their interests.

This class guides students in how to turn reporting on science research into an effective video story. Students will have a better understanding of how to structure a visual story for greater impact. Students will learn how to use video to not only expand their storytelling, but also expand their audience. Dash, L	Part of Term: 1 Date Range: 08/26/24-12/11/24 Credit: 3 hours Section Title: Immersive Storytelling Section Info: This course will introduce you to the journalistic interview techniques of immersion journalism. The written result is immersive storytelling. The methodology examines contemporary social phenomena through the lives of individuals and families. The student will study an actual application of the methodology in the book, When Children Want Children, which is an examination of adolescent childbearing among high school students in a very poor neighborhood of Washington, D. C. You will learn the techniques by doing an actual project of your choosing. You will have to recruit a participant, interview the person extensively with digital recorder, transcribe the interviews, and write a midterm and final story/narrative based on the interviews.
