Description: The course will use two Reacting to the Past role-playing “games” to investigate the politics, debates, and culture of the long 1960s. This mode of learning requires close reading of original sources, active participation, essay-writing and speech-making. We will use “Chicago 1968: Policy and Protest at the Democratic Party Convention." Students will immerse themselves in debates about civil rights, the war on poverty, the Vietnam War—and the process of change. The second major game will likely be "Guerrilla Girls in Our Midst" about a feminist art collective's critique of racism, sexism, and money in the art world.
