Section Info:
Meets with LING 588. This course provides a practical introduction to a range of quantitative research methods in linguistics and applied linguistics. The content covered in the course can also help build foundational statistical knowledge needed to understand machine learning and data science methods. The course will be divided into a number of modules related to different quantitative research designs. In each module, this course will be a combination of lecture/discussions, R codes demonstration, and article critique/presentations. Most of the R demonstrations are pre-recorded videos, along with lab-based recitations. No prior statistics or research methods courses are required in order to register for the course, although some basic knowledge of statistics will be helpful.
