Section Title:
Smartphone Astronomy
Section Info:
Smartphone Astronomy (SPA): Use your smartphone to explore the sky and learn about the sky and astronomy. Measure the radius of the Earth by just using your phone. Look for mysterious cosmic rays. Try to overcome your camera sensor and compare the diameter of the Moon and Sun. Chart the Moon’s phases. Watch the Earth turn under the stars and move about its orbit. With dedication, hopefully some clear skies, and your smartphone, you can learn more about your place on the Earth and through that your place in the Universe. The course is online and asynchronous. Emphasis will be placed on acquiring observations, problem-solving, and scientific methods. Students are required to own a smartphone, or have unfettered use of one, with a working camera to take this course. Note that outdoor photography at night is a class requirement.
