Section Info:
This course provides a graduate level foundation of physical, chemical, and biological principles that govern the environmental quality of soil, water, and atmospheric systems. It also provides an overview of the very real environmental challenges locally, regionally, and globally through the lens of human-environment interactions. Emphasis will be placed on applications of various environmental technologies to improve environmental quality and sustainability.

NE Illinois Field Ecology
Section Info:
This course will introduce students to the ecosystems of Northeast Illinois, with an emphasis on current research, assessment methods and management practices designed to restore them and the environmental services they provide. Local ecosystems and communities will be studied in terms of their physical, chemical, and biological components, structure, and processes. Field trips will be supported by local researchers and expert practitioners. Planned activities will expose students to research, assessment, planning, implementation, and monitoring methods and technologies. The course will include an online introductory session (via Zoom) on June 1st. Field sessions will be conducted over an intensive six-day period (June 5-10, 2023), after which students will have two weeks to focus on an issue of interest and prepare a formal class presentation (on June 27th and 29th).
