This course will meet June 12-16 only. Instruction will begin on Sunday at 1:30 pm and will end by 5:00 pm on Thursday. The course offering is 1-4 variable credit hours. Join other choral educator-conductors in a five-day workshop led by Dr. Andrea Solya, Choral Conductor and Professor in the University of Illinois School of Music. As a symposium participant, you will experience daily lecture-demonstrations, podium time, and personal consultation with Dr. Solya. Examines theory and practice of musical creativity within instrumental music education in P-12 settings. Experiences will include developing creativity-focused rehearsal techniques, assessments, activities, and curricula within instrumental music contexts. Emphasis will be placed on constructivist approaches to large instrumental ensemble instruction.

Explores the philosophy of repertoire selection and role of the conductor for a 21st century wind band. Experiences will include repertoire discovery, intentional programming for ensembles, and development of conducting technique within the repertoire. Emphasis will be placed on application to school music settings.
