Climate Change, Planetary Health and Sustainability
Credit: 2 hours.
Medical students should learn how to practice medicine in the context of the current health impacts of climate change. Throughout the U.S. and globally, climate change contributes to increasing morbidity and mortality, including heat illness, respiratory and cardiovascular disease from air pollution, vector and water borne diseases, food and water insecurity, mental stress, and injuries. We highlight health threats, policies, and actions for physicians, engineering/medical researchers, and medical students.
No graduate credit. 2 professional hours. Approved for S/U grading only. Available for honor grades. Prerequisite: Restricted to students enrolled in the MD program at Carle Illinois College of Medicine.
