Section Info:
Section Title: Gender Performance and Diversity in Indigenous Art and Cultural Contexts. In this seminar, we will discuss the multivalent modalities of representing, performing, and otherwise embodying gender in Indigenous art and cultural contexts. Utilizing the disciplinary and methodological frameworks of Indigenous studies, performance studies, gender studies, and critical visual and ethnographic analysis, we will discuss the effects of European colonization upon Indigenous gender expression, resistance to the enforcement of colonial gender norms, and the deeply interwoven relationships between and among gender, community, and the land.
