Section Title:
Signal Processing
Section Info:
This course is for graduate students interested in reinforcing their modeling, signal analysis, instrumentation, and control techniques through solving a challenging industrial problem. Namely, an electrohydraulic-actuator/flexible-beam assembly exhibiting resonance will be introduced, and the sequence of course topics will be integrated into a tool set capable of suppressing this resonance. A high fidelity MATLAB model of an assembly will be used as a virtual lab to carry out the project tasks and help develop problem solution, the likes of which are currently employed in industry.

Laser 3D Printing
Section Info:
The course addresses laser powder bed fusion (LPBD) 3D printing technology. The LPBF is an additive manufacturing (AM) process where a laser fuses particulate materials such as metals, polymers, or ceramics. The course includes an overview of the LPBD method, data preparation workflow, AM process chain, AM parameters-microstructure-property relations, post-processing, and case studies. EOS company will offer a summer internship to a top student in the class.

Carbon Capture and Storage
Section Info:
Carbon capture and storage is an important technology for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating global warming. This course will cover fundamentals for CO2 separation from syngas and post-combustion flue gas, the most advanced CO2 capture technologies including absorption, adsorption and membranes, CO2 compression and transportation, and CO2 sequestration in deep underground geological formations. The course will have regular lecture sessions, combined with reading and discussion sessions as well as the writing of a short research paper.
