Topic: Race, Gender, Music. Meets with AAS 299 and GWS 295. This course examines the relationship between music, social formation, and politics. We will consider how musical cultures shape relations of race, gender, sexuality and nation, by exploring the dynamic processes of musical production, consumption, and exchange. The course will develop a critical analysis of the politics of musical and cultural practice through music history, cultural studies, musicology, and sound studies.
