Students construct and analyze genograms, including their own, using family systems theory and multigenerational development perspectives. Attention is given to critically examining one's own family history as a part of professional growth. Students will practice using genograms to assess families in popular media using novels, memoirs, films, and/or television shows. Case studies will be used throughout the course to expose students to diverse family experiences with specific attention to race and sociocultural context.
