This section of FAA 110 will focus on disability, Crip theory, and the arts, and will critically examine issues of access, embodiment, and representation in art, film, and the performing arts. Whereas cultural producers and the institutions that support and disseminate their work shape our cultural understanding of disability, this course will interrogate and question how disability is constructed through a combination of theoretical, practical, and historical modalities. Through a series of regular viewing/reading discussions, visual arts, and live performance experiences, students will develop a personalized critical and aesthetic vernacular through which to engage contemporary Disability/Crip discourses. On Mondays at 10:00am, the class will meet in 1002 Siebel Center for Design located at 1208 S. Fourth Street in Champaign.
