Quantile Regression
Section Info:
The course will introduce modeling, estimation, and inference of quantile regression along with some useful applications. Computational and theoretical aspects will also be discussed. The course will further cover generalization to situations such as censoring and high dimensional covariates. Students are expected to give presentations and/or to do a project related to a topic covered in the class. Pre-requisites: STAT 527 (or STAT 425), and STAT 511 (or STAT 510). Intro to Online Learning
Section Info:
This course deals with the foundations and advances of online learning and online convex optimization. The main theme of the course is the design and theoretical understanding of algorithms that make sequential decisions in adversarial environments, striving to perform as close as possible to a fixed strategy that knows the future in advance. Special attention will be paid to parameter-free, efficient, and practical algorithms. The focus will be on theorems and proofs for the analysis of online learning algorithms. The class will also cover applications of online learning to stochastic optimization and statistical machine learning topics. Prerequisites: A strong level of mathematical maturity is required. In particular, Linear Algebra and Multivariate Calculus are required. Prior knowledge of convex optimization is also going to be very helpful.
