This 8 week 2 credit course will be centered around viewing the presentations from the University of Miami's Copyright Conference. The conference is free for students and takes place online. All conference presentations are recorded and can be viewed at your leisure. During class, we will supplement the topics discussed with readings and at the conclusion of the course, students will write an essay about what they learned from attending the online conference. Graduate student questions may be sent to the instructor.

WISE Course: The development of archival theory and practice has brought contributions from around the world. In addition, contemporary issues related to access, accountability, and memory offer plenty of examples and discussions from international archival contexts. This course introduces students to a diverse number of archival issues analyzed from an international perspective. Topics include historical developments of theory and practice in Archives and Records Management, standards, international collaboration, archives and social justice. WISE Course: This course will examine video games from a cultural, social, and learning perspective. Rather than focusing on game design or analysis of game play, this course will focus on ways in which video games have been used in libraries as part of collections, for special events, and for teaching and learning. Through readings of critical works we will engage with questions such as are videogames primarily artifacts of play or are video games an expressive form such as poetry and theater? Using a variety of theoretical & methodological approaches a range of topics will be discussed; gender and race in gaming; intellectual property and commodification in games, players as producers of game content; games as sandboxes; and virtual worlds. WISE Course: Applications of marketing concepts to library and information services. Market analysis, use surveys, market targeting and introduction of services will be featured. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: Describe the significance and value of having a marketing philosophy. Build a comprehensive and practical process for solving problems through systematic application of marketing principles to library and information organizations. Identify and discuss the marketing components that are relied upon to make effective marketing decisions (marketing research, segmentation, marketing mix strategy, and marketing evaluation). Analyze aspects of nonprofit marketing management in detail, outside the classroom.
