This course explores academic librarianship through a variety of lenses including: history and organization of higher education; accreditation; characteristics of students; roles of faculty and other campus professionals; and current issues and challenges. Focuses on international librarianship (how librarians communicate on international issues) and how that differs from comparative librarianship (the comparative study of library services in specific contexts). Examines how concepts such as "one-world" and "free flow of information" are valid in the international information arena; the importance of internationalizing library education; the role of international information agencies and the need for formulating information policies. Prerequisite: IS 510-Libraries Info and Society. In the last 15 years, an increasing number of social workers have partnered with public libraries to help address the psychosocial needs of patrons. Learn how social workers provide training to library staff on trauma informed principles, as well as boosting outreach programs to patrons. Library and social work students will gain awareness of the collaborative means the two professions seek social justice in the heart of urban, suburban, and rural communities in North America. This course teaches knowledge and skills needed for information professionals to work successfully in a makerspace, learning lab, or other creative spaces. The course covers relevant theories, research, practices, and technologies on making, design thinking, and learning in libraries. this is a synchronous, online course and includes hands-on maker activities that can be done at home.
