Section Title:
Unbound Book: Literature Games
Section Info:
From dictionaries to swatch books to flip-books, the bound book has always been open to new ways of navigating pages beyond the front-to-back linear read. In the Twentieth Century, while the novel and poetry were ongoing laboratories for reinventing literary form, game designers created Choose Your Own Adventure Books and other puzzles in book form. In this course, we will look at some of the most well-known examples of literature that rethought ways of storytelling and ways of using the book. We will also look at practitioners—individual writers and groups—who pursued a systematic rearrangement of traditional linearity.
