Investigates the dynamics of the spread of Islam in Africa, and explores the connections between Muslims in Africa and other areas of the Islamic world, with attention to the image in Western scholarship of Islam in Africa. Provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to understand this central phenomenon in modern world history.
