By focusing on themes of cultural encounter, colonization, and resistance, we will examine this question from multiple vantage points, with an emphasis on the connections between people in the "Atlantic World" - Africa, the Americas, and Europe. Through lectures, discussions, and readings, we will analyze how new cultures, identifies, and nation-states emerged as a result of migration and interaction.
