Climate Change Impacts on Ecological Systems

Credit: 3 hours.

Examines the response of ecological systems to climate change by drawing on multiple lines of evidence from the past and present. Topics include species range shifts, timing of biological events, ecosystem function, and feedbacks. The implications for conservation, as well as approaches to mitigating and adapting to climate change, are also explored. Computer-based exercises are used to enhance quantitative reasoning skills and build climate and ecological literacy.

This is an online course taught in the Compass course management system with no classroom sessions. Although there are no scheduled meeting times, there are multiple assignment due dates each week and also weekly online self-assessments. Students will be required to purchase a $25 subscription to Packback to participate in group discussions, and use Microsoft Office 365 Excel for Windows to perform laboratory exercises.
