Film Production

SHOW FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE

Credit: 4 hours.

This course serves as an introduction to the many phases of narrative film production. Students will explore—through technical application—the formal qualities of motion pictures and the ways that film communicates space and time, stories, and experiences. Through lectures and labs, students will learn the technical skills and concepts that will enable them to complete a number of production projects outside of class. They will also gain a fundamental grounding in all of the essential skills of the film production workflow. This course is a prerequisite for all upper-level MACS cinema production courses.

Additional fees may apply. See Class Schedule. Prerequisite: MACS 140 OR MACS 150 OR sophomore standing. Sophomore standing required unless credit has been given for MACS 140 or MACS 150.

Section Info: Through lectures and labs, students will gain a fundamental grounding in all of the essential skills of the film production process. They will learn how to navigate from the screenplay to the edited movie. They will learn through experiential learning the use of semi-professional equipment, both camera and sound, to create their own movies and how to edit them using Adobe Creative Cloud. They will work in groups of 3 to 8 people depending on the exercise. In addition, this course includes a series of lectures that will explain all steps of the film production process. Freshman who have the prerequisites will need to contact the SSC for permission to take this course. Course has synchronous (live) session. Restriction(s): Not intended for students with Freshman class standing.
