Seminar exposing students to different disciplinary perspectives on specific environmental issues, as revealed in the scholarly literature. Specific problems will vary from term to term. This seminar helps students make the transition from disciplinary to interdisciplinary thinking.

	54920	Conference	A	3:30PM -4:50PM	TR	Everitt Laboratory	Kanter, R	Part of Term: 1 Date Range: 01/25/21-05/05/21 Section Info: The spring 2021 edition of ESE 311 will systematically explore a range of environmental issues as they are represented in the Vermilion River system of central Illinois, starting with the Boneyard Creek and heading downstream toward the Gulf of Mexico. Along the way, we’ll look at topics such as urban stormwater management, sewage treatment (cooler than it sounds!), the translocation of endangered mussels, changes to hydrology and pollution from industrial agriculture, coal issues, activism, and the importance of waterways for outdoor recreation. On Tuesdays, we’ll meet as a regular class to discuss a set of readings about the issue of the week, and on Thursdays we’ll host speakers (usually from outside the university) who are directly involved with those issues.
