Synchronous attendance required. No LMS. EDUC 199, CRN 72448 is looking for college students who want to learn more about education by working with students, teachers, and community leaders. The class meets virtually from 3:30 PM - 4:50 pm each Thursday for a discussion section. Then, 2-3 hours are spent volunteering, online, working with students in community center settings. Students in EDUC199 will act as tutors and mentors to students in the local community. The instructor of the class has been a teacher in the community for 24 years. Mentoring in Education: Mentee
Section Info:
For first-year students enrolled in or interested in Education majors or Secondary Education minor. Synchronous attendance is required every other Wednesday for lecture, beginning 8/25. Moodle LMS. This course provides the opportunity to experience service learning through mentoring relationships between incoming freshmen enrolled/interested in Education and experienced students already enrolled in an Education (either College of Education or LAS-SecEd) program. The format for this course is: lecture-discussions will occur every other week, and on opposite weeks mentees are expected to meet with mentors for at least 1 hour. Please note that mentors should register for section EDUC 199-MFR.
