Section Info:
Rheology fundamentals, principles of measurements, and applications to practical problem solving applied to a broad range of complex fluid and soft solid materials including polymer solutions and melts, colloidal suspensions, granular particle suspensions, pastes, emulsions, foams, surfactants, hydrogels, and biopolymer networks. Students will learn constitutive equations, optimal measurement techniques, data reduction and interpretation, and case study applications in lectures and lab sessions. The course is designed for an interdisciplinary audience including all engineering disciplines, chemists, formulators, pharmacists, geologists, physicists, and biologists. Prerequisite: introductory undergraduate-level coursework in at least one of the core areas of fluid mechanics, or solid mechanics, or polymer physics, or colloid physics, or similar.
