Artificial Light at Night and
Section Info:
Of the many forms of anthropogenic activity that threaten global biodiversity, artificial light at night (ALAN) has only recently become a significant focus for research, possibly because such research is inherently multidisciplinary and thus challenging. In this seminar, students will read and discuss recent studies examining ALAN from a diversity of perspectives, including light perception across organisms, impacts of light on physiology, behavior, and life history traits, effects of ALAN on interspecific interactions (particularly predation and pollination), and evidence-based strategies for reducing its impacts on populations, communities, and ecosystems.
