Section Title:
Art + Place
Section Info:
Topic: Art + Place. Graduate Section Description: What is place? Is it a location? An idea? A memory? How are the boundaries of places created? Enforced? Changed? This course will explore various ways to consider these questions, and more, without purporting to offer proven answers. While contemporary visual art serves as our primary field of inquiry, we will approach the problems of place through multiple disciplines and forms through readings, film screenings, field trips and, of course, making/performing art. In particular, we will engage with both playful and practical responses to places within and surrounding what we know as Urbana-Champaign. The structure of this course is a combination of the seminar model and studio workshop.
