Topic: Making of the Modern World, 1500-2000. Description: How has the movement of people across oceans and borders shaped the modern world over the past 500 years? By focusing on themes of cultural encounter, colonization, and resistance, we will examine this question from multiple vantage points, with an emphasis on the connections between people in the "Atlantic World" - Africa, the Americas, and Europe. Through lectures, discussions, and readings, we will analyze how new cultures, identifies, and nation-states emerged as a result of migration and interaction.
