Section Title:
Multinational Companies Brazil
Section Info:
**This section is for undergraduate enrollment** This course will be taught via zoom The objective of this course is to present the participation of multinationals in the economic development of Brazil between 1860, at the time of the Empire, until 2018. In the 19th century, the highlight was the performance of European multinationals, mainly English, in the infrastructure sectors, such as railways, gas, public lighting, urban transport, among others. At the beginning of the 20th century, such multinationals were replaced, in part, by North American companies, with an emphasis on the post-World War I period. However, the presence of multinationals was not so significant for Brazil's economic development until the end of World War II. In the second half of the 20th century, multinationals played an important role in Brazil's economic development. From the 1950s, the tripod was formed: Multinationals, State-owned companies and National Private Companies that contributed to the country's development. At the beginning of the 21st century, a new country emerged with strong Foreign Direct Investment and with the presence of its multinationals, which is China. These are the main elements that we will study in this discipline.
