Credit is not given for FIN 490 CRNs 57268 and 57353 and FIN 464. Course will not satisfy Finance major requirements. Prerequisite: FIN 300 or consent of instructor.

In the first part, students will gain practical skills in data exploration and data preparation, such as validating data, manipulating data with functions, combining tables, processing data iteratively, and restructuring tables. The second part of the course focuses on analyzing data. Linear regression, model selection, categorical data analysis, and time series regression will be discussed. Students will work extensively with financial data and apply data analytics tools in solving real-world problems, which include constructing and comparing financial ratios, security valuation, making investment decisions, bankruptcy prediction, and house price estimation.
