Sustainable Organizations

SHOW FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE

Credit: 4 hours.

Explores the notion of sustainability as a core business tenant, and how entrepreneurs and their companies are working to create and capture financial, social, and environmental value. The focus is on on large, for profit companies, but lessons will extend to smaller, non-profit, and governmental organizations. The aim is to prepare participants for the green challenge of adopting and implementing socially responsible practices in the workplace.

Students will evaluate a real world problem set and create a social enterprise model that responds to the environmental issues at hand, while simultaneously maintaining the organization’s financial health and social responsibility. Focus is placed upon in-class team based process that work “bottom up” to deliver unique solutions to some of today’s most challenging problems. Provides an insight into the developmental needs of the non-profit sector including project management, budgeting, marketing and sponsorship. Restriction(s): Restricted to Earth, Soc, Env Sustainability major(s).
