Statistics in Chemical Engrg
Section Info:
The course focuses on the use of statistical methods for describing the distribution of data and their analysis with explicit applications in chemistry and chemical engineering. Probability distributions, sampling and experimental design are discussed, and topics from quality control, reliability estimation and various statistical intervals—confidence, prediction, tolerance, hypothesis testing, and the analysis of variance for comparing more than two populations or treatments will be practiced. Regression models and associated inferential procedures will also be covered. Credit is not given for both CHBE 494ST and either IE300 or STAT400.

Section Title:
Assembly of Functional Materia
Section Info:
Meets with CHBE 594 YD. Topic: Assembly of Functional Materials. Covers fundamental principles and industrial applications of self and directed assembly from molecular, nano-, to macro-scale in all classes of materials, in particular molecular and polymeric materials. Topics include meta-stable liquids, solution phase chemistry and kinetics, interfacial stability, interfacial free energies, nucleation theories, crystal growth, aggregation and other phase separation mechanisms, grain growth and grain boundaries, defects formation, flow-induced assembly and aggregation. Lectures will also introduce application of these fundamental principles in the production of a broad range of materials, such as pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, food products, electronics and solar cells.
Restriction(s):
Restricted to Undergrad - Urbana-Champaign.
