Section Title:
Using Applied Economics
Section Info:
Analyzing Current Topics with Applied Economics: Applied and agricultural economic tools can be used to analyze a wide array of timely issues facing people in the U.S. and across the world. This course considers some of these issues and how economics provides insights beyond what may be possible with other methods of analysis. The course meets once a week for 50 minutes. All incoming freshman and transfer students will be encouraged to take the course in sections of 20 students. The first three weeks of the course, the instructor will discuss three-to-four articles taken from the Economist or the Wall Street Journal. After an overview of the issues covered in the article, the instructor will apply economic analyses to describe some of the implications arising out of the article, including policy implications. Starting in the fourth week through the rest of the semester, five students per class period will be asked to select an article from the Economist or Wall Street Journal and send a link to the other students in the class prior to the class period. During the class period, each presenting student will give a brief overview of the topic, the instructor will discuss the economics around the paper, and a broader discussion will then ensue.
Restriction(s):
Restricted to students in the Agr & Consumer Economics department.
Restricted to Transfer student - first time or First Time Freshman students.
