Credit: 4 hours.

Introductory course focusing on the basic structure, metabolic, and molecular processes (including membranes, energy metabolism, genes) common to all cells. Emphasis on unique properties that differentiate the major sub-groups of organisms (Archaea, Bacteria, plants, and animals), and will discuss how cells are integrated into tissues and organs in multicellular organisms.

Priority registration given to students in Biological Sciences Program and Biochemistry. For further information: www.life.illinois.edu/mcb/150. Students must register for one discussion and one lecture section.

Students will utilize a combination of LON-CAPA lessons, Blackboard Collaborate-based discussion sections and office hours, and required e-book access. Students are required to attend one of the two Blackboard Collaborate sessions, either from 12:30-2:30 pm or from 3:00 -5:00 pm, on Fridays. Two proctored hourly exams and a proctored final exam will be given either on campus or via ProctorU. This section will have one or more proctored online exams which may carry additional fees. Proctoring options include fee-based ProctorU as a remote option and our MCB Learning Center computer lab for a local, in-person option.
