This course provides students with a broad introduction to the discipline of Communication and their role in advancing it. The seminar’s three main goals are: (1) to introduce you to the history and development of the discipline, (2) to help you appreciate the importance of theoretical advancement, and 3) to provide practical tips on accelerating your scholarly career. The seminar focuses on topics designed to assist you in positioning yourself as a burgeoning researcher within Communication. We will cover a number of topics that have received a great deal of attention by the faculty of our department. We will also explore successful models of scholarly writing. By the end of the term, students should have a more thorough understanding of the discipline and how their own research fits into it. This course is intended to provide a solid foundation for you to build upon in your subsequent coursework and research trajectory.
