Topics in Evolution
Section Info:
1 hour. Graduate Seminar in Evolution. Topic: From Genome to Phenotype to Fitness. With the ready and ever growing availability of genomic data in many taxa, classic problems in the relationships between genome, phenotype, and fitness are being studied from a number of novel and creative perspectives. This seminar is a critical engagement with the contemporary and classic evolutionary theory necessary for formulating questions and hypotheses in today’s evolutionary biology. We will focus on issues relating population and quantitative genetics to larger issues in evolution. We will use these perspectives to build an understanding of how interactions among genotypes, organisms, and environments can influence evolutionary trajectories. Evaluation will be based on seminar participation and a final paper project.
