Subjects covered include the impact of the Industrial Revolution on military technology and practice, the influence of military theory (including the work of Clausewitz), the development of staffs and doctrine, the phenomenon of total war, the character of insurgency, and the rise of global terrorism. Conflicts studied in some detail include the U.S. Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Arab-Israeli Wars, and the "war" on terrorism.
