Section Title:
Black Women Writers
Section Info:
Black Women Writers Audre Lorde wrote that “poetry is the way we help give name to the nameless so it can be thought,” emphasizing that literature does not simply reflect the world around us, but actively produces new ideas and possibilities. This course will consider a wide range of writing -- including poetry, fiction, and essays – by selected black women writers from the nineteenth century through the present. Our discussions will explore their literary strategies and political visions, along with the aesthetic, historical, and cultural contexts of their work.
