Topic: Theories of Modern Chinese literature This seminar guides students to read modern Chinese literature through applying different literary theories and critical ideas to understanding the text, the context, and the historical conditions. In this seminar, various literary and critical theories, ranging from psycho-analysis to new criticism to structuralism, are introduced to students. We will also read the literary texts, rendered as the platform where literary theories and criticism are tested and understood. Primary texts in Chinese, and secondary literature in both English and Chinese.
