Marketplace Lit & Social Innov
Section Info:
Course explores topics related to social innovation, marketplace literacy, and microenterprise development in global subsistence marketplaces. Examines case studies of social and environmental problem solving through social innovation, appropriate technologies, and social enterprise development. Introduces bottom-up immersion and design techniques for understanding context and constraints in subsistence marketplaces, recognizing opportunities, and creating social value. Utilizes marketplace literacy and entrepreneurship education as a strategy for poverty alleviation and empowerment for people living in low-resource settings. This course is designed for students in Entrepreneurs Without Borders as a companion to a faculty-led short-term study abroad program, which includes experiential learning in marketplace literacy education and social enterprise consulting. Enrollment in the course does not include travel costs, which must be paid separately. Open to all majors. Prerequisite: Application process for Entrepreneurs Without Borders.
