The Fan Experience
Section Info:
Course will examine the Fan Experience at sport, entertainment, and cultural activities as an academic phenomenon and draw from the fields of social sciences, the arts, and related professional fields to best understand the motivations, attributed meanings, and economic impacts of fandom. Students will collaborate with executives and from the Chicago Blackhawks, the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and acquire and in depth knowledge of the management techniques and strategies necessary for successful planning, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of external stakeholder experiences in a variety of professional settings. Course will include a field work experience with the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center.

Veterans Leadership and Transition. Having veterans on campus is an honor. The University recognizes the vast experiences and leadership that veterans bring from the military. For some returning veterans, going back to school can present unique challenges. There are many offices on campus and within the community that are designed to see veterans succeed. This course is designed for veterans who are freshman and transfer students to learn about assistive resources, gain practical skills that will support their transition to campus, reflect on their service history, and develop community. This class meets in room 1020 at the Center for Wounded Veterans, 908 W. Nevada St., Urbana.

Section Info:
Career Development for Military Connected Students. The objective of this course is to introduce military-connected students to the subject of career development and to provide strategies that enable them to land a career and succeed in the workplace. This course provides an overview of the civilian and federal job search process, resources for creating effective resumes and cover letters, interview preparation, job negotiations, professional networking and knowledge of various industries and organizations. Additionally, employee rights and benefits to include retirement programs will be discussed in detail, as well as tips for business-related functions, workplace challenges and situations, making sense of your paycheck, increasing your salary, and the importance of finding a mentor(s) early in your academic career. This class meets in room 1020 at the Center for Wounded Veterans, 908 W. Nevada St., Urbana.
