Sociophonetics of French
Section Info:
Sociophonetics of French and Gallo-Romance. Study of contemporary and archival data of dialectal and stylistic variation in the sound systems of Romance language varieties spoken in French territories (e.g. Parisian French, Occitan, Provençal, Catalan, and French-lexified creoles). Comparisons with other Romance languages, take-home midterm and final projects. Pre-requisites: graduate standing, some form of introduction to linguistics, or permission from the instructor. Taught in French and English, with readings in both languages. 4 credit hours. Meets with RMLG 559/ SPAN 557.
