MATH 115

Credit: 3 hours.

Reviews trigonometric, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions; provides a full treatment of limits, definition of derivative, and an introduction to finding area under a curve. Intended for students who need preparation for MATH 220, either because they lack the content background or because they are not prepared for the rigor of a university calculus course.

Credit is not given for both MATH 115 and either MATH 014 or MATH 114. Credit is not given for MATH 115 if credit for either MATH 220 or MATH 221 has been earned. Prerequisite: An adequate ALEKS placement score as described at http://math.illinois.edu/ALEKS/, demonstrating knowledge of the topics of MATH 112.

Students must register for one Lecture and one Discussion section.

This is a computer based course and requires access to a Mathematica-based courseware. Courseware access will be provided to students registered in the course. Must have a recent passing ALEKS score in order to be able to register. Please see http://math.illinois.edu/ALEKS. Section Info:
This section uses the ALEKS assessment and learning system. Students are required to purchase an ALEKS code to access the course online. The code is non-refundable and costs $78. Must have a recent passing ALEKS score in order to be able to register. Please see http://math.illinois.edu/ALEKS. A 16-week self-paced version of this class will also be available as part of the academic year term (not summer term). Registration for the self-paced class is done through https://netmath.illinois.edu/Register (not Self-Service). This course requires multiple paper-based exams that must be taken with an approved proctor. Exams may be taken on campus with NetMath proctoring; for off-campus options see https://netmath.illinois.edu/offcampus. Off-campus proctors must be able to scan completed exams and email them to NetMath for grading, as well as mailing the paper exam back for archival purposes.
