Registration with Instructor Approval Only. Mandatory Orientation Meeting May 3rd. This course is an archaeological field school where students will have the opportunity to engage in innovative original research at the archaeological site of Cerro Blanco, a Chancay Administrative Center located in central Peru. In this four-week field course, students will have the opportunity to participate in the Huanangue Valley Archaeological Project and engage in active hands-on research at Cerro Blanco. In the field, students will research agriculture and local economies, the intersection between public ceremonies and trade/exchange, and identity and belonging through various excavations. Students will work with experienced archaeology students from Universidad Nacional Federico Viarreal and will also receive training in drone mapping, spatial analysis in GIS, and artifact analysis. This course is great for students interested in anthropology, economy, political science, social impacts of climate change, environmental sustainability, indigenous ecologies, resource management, or Latin American studies.
