FROM MOUNTAINS TO THE SEA: WATERSHED SCIENCE & MANAGEMENT IN THE COASTAL PACIFIC NORTHWEST. This interdisciplinary course is intended for upper level undergraduate and graduate students from any academic unit who wish to gain hands-on experience and develop practical skills in: (1) designing and conducting field projects for environmental/geoscience research or consulting; (2) operating field equipment for data acquisition, combining acquired data with other available data sets, and carrying out data analysis to prepare a technical report. As reflected in the course title "From Mountains to the Sea: Watershed Science and Management in the Coastal Pacific Northwest," we will do that while exploring beautiful and diverse landscape of the Pacific Northwest. We will follow salmon-bearing stream and rivers, which run through lush temperate rainforest, carrying water and sediment from glacier and snow-capped mountains to estuaries and fjords on the Pacific Coast.
