Examines specific topics and writers of contemporary political theory. Recent themes have included conceptions of power, rights, justice, and radical political thought.

May be repeated to a maximum of 9 hours. Prerequisite: PS 270, six hours of Political Science credit, or consent of instructor.

	67025	Lecture-Discussion	MO	12:30PM -1:50PM	TR	223 David Kinley Hall	Orlie, M	Part of Term: 1 Date Range: 01/16/18-05/02/18 Credit: 3 hours Section Title: Ecological Political Thought Section Info: This course will explore a selection of classics of ecological thinking (examples include Thoreau, Aldo Leopold, Edward Abbey, Rachel Carson, Arne Naess) and more recent contributions to facing our human plight and prospects for nature (possible examples include but are not limited to Wendell Berry, Wes Jackson, David Ehrenfeld, Dipesh Chakrabarty, Michael Serres, Vendana Shiva, Bruno Latour, E.O. Wilson, Ramachandra Guha, Rob Nixon), as well as supplemental material from conservation biology and environmental history. We will consider how these various ecological perspectives compare with classic and conventional accounts of economics, culture, and politics, including the most conventional or currently popular approaches to earthly problems and prospects. We will be less concerned to measure how popular or widespread a particular prognosis or recommendation for action, and instead assess their sufficiency to the problems we face. Restriction(s): Not intended for students with Freshman class standing.
