GER 465/SCAN 494 - Spring 2018 Topic: Language and Migration in German and Scandinavian Contexts This course explores the history of language and migration, both from and to areas where German and Scandinavian languages are spoken. Students learn about sociolinguistic factors of language contact and change and about the structural characteristics of both historical and present-day varieties of German and Scandinavian languages in contact situations. The course is taught in English, though knowledge of German or a Scandinavian language is recommended. Students have the opportunity to engage with source material in their language(s) of expertise.
