Field Geology: The Geology fieldtrip to Scotland will run following spring commencement ceremonies. The class explores world-class localities in the west and northwest of Scotland focusing on; (1) Structures in the Moine Thrust Belt associated with the Caledonian Orogeny and formation of Pangaea, (2) Sedimentary relationships in Jurassic rift sequence associated with opening of the North Sea and (3) the Tertiary Igneous Province and associated sediments related to initiation of the Icelandic Plume and opening of the Atlantic Ocean Basin. The trip assumes a background in geology and is intended primarily for geology graduate students. 4 hrs. Field trip fee required. The field trip fee does not include the cost of airfare or other transportation and these costs are the responsibility of the student. Prerequisites: At least one 400-level geology course; permission of the instructor, based on an application process, for there is limited space. Priority will be given to students with a strong record of coursework in geoscience and/or a particular need for taking the course in. 4 hrs.
