Section Info:
Big Data Analytics, Smart Cities, and Digital Geographies: Recent developments in geographic information science (GIScience) have considerable potential to provide new and important insights to many analytical problems geographers face in their research. This course introduces students to some of the most innovative advances in GIScience, big data analytics, and analysis of contextual effects and uncertainty. It will also cover the application of advanced GIScience methods in various fields, including geography, urban studies and planning, public health, and transportation science. Topics include big spatiotemporal data analytics, mobile and movement data and their analytics, space-time GIS, smart cities, geographic context and uncertainty, algorithmic uncertainties, critiques of big data, and digital geographies.
