Students will travel to Honduras over Winter Break 2017-18 to assist the community of Cerro Verde in constructing a new potable water system. STEM Education Practicum
Section Info:
In this service-learning course, students work in a team to create and facilitate engaging lessons for underrepresented youth in local STEM education outreach programs. In addiiton to the scheduled class meeting times, students must be available to facilitate weekly sessions on site at the DREAAM (Driven to Reach Excellence & Academic Achievement for Males) House. This is a school to college pipeline program, which invests in boys placed at risk with a targeted focus on Africal American males. The course includes discussion of topics related to STEM education, development of STEM-based curriculum, and reflection on the fieldwork experiences. Instructor approval required.
