Advanced topics course in Creative Writing. Students study selected topic through a workshop model, pursuing advanced development in one or more approaches to writing in a specialized field or genre.

3 undergraduate hours. 4 graduate hours. May be repeated, if topics vary. Prerequisite: Junior standing required.

Students will read a range of humorous works—from the creative nonfiction of David Sedaris to satirical fiction by Jonathan Swift and post-soul writers—in order to connect a range of craft principles about writing what makes us laugh—and think. The workshop component of the course will involve directed projects in fiction and creative nonfiction, with discussion and critique. PRE-REQUISITE: CW 204 OR CONSENT OF INSTRUCTOR. Restriction(s): Restricted to students with Junior, Senior, or Sophomore class standing. Restricted to Graduate - Urbana-Champaign.
